The UK's largest independent soapbox race returns!
Get ready for high-speed thrills, near misses, and more than a few belly laughs – the Great Dunmow Soapbox Race is back on Sunday 25th May 2025, and it’s promising a day packed with homemade chaos and community cheer!
Now in its fifth edition, this quirky charity event has become one of Europe’s most exciting soapbox races, bringing thousands of people to the streets of Great Dunmow to watch teams hurtle downhill in wildly imaginative, self-built carts.
This year, 50 brave teams are set to compete – all powered by gravity, guts, and good humour. With no engines allowed, these racers rely purely on clever design and fearless driving as they take on a course packed with ramps, jumps and tricky obstacles.
Organised by local charity group Great Dunmow Round Table, the event has already raised over £150,000 for local causes, supporting individuals, families, and community projects across the area. The group is made up of men aged 18–45 who volunteer their time to run events including fireworks night, Santa’s sleigh, and Dunmow Carnival’s bar.
This year’s race will be bigger than ever with giant screens, more live entertainment, a full media crew, and even more inventive challenges for the teams to tackle. It’s expected to draw over 20,000 spectators, making it one of the largest events of its kind in the UK.
