Something epic is returning to Dunmow!

Great Dunmow Round Table is to host the third Great Dunmow Soapbox Race on the 24th of May, 2020. Over 60 teams will battle it out to be crowned champion of the Great Dunmow Soapbox Race facing jumps, near misses and some spectacular crashes all to raise money for Great Dunmow Round Table, and their chosen charities.

Last year, the Great Dunmow Soapbox Race became the second-largest soapbox race in the United Kingdom seeing crowds of up to 20,000 people. With a waiting list of over 700 teams, it is expected that this event will retain that title raising a colossal amount for charities. In 2019, over £40,000 was raised for Great Dunmow Round Table, Mind West Essex and St Clare Hospice.

Last year the event was won by "Fast & Furious Flitch House", a local tapas restaurant who beat professional soapbox racers, mechanics and engineers. Matt Coleman, the driver, said "We came to win and that's what we did. The Great Dunmow Soapbox Race has been incredible and really well organised. Start to finish I can't fault it! I'm looking forward to winning this trophy again next year".

The Great Dunmow Soapbox Race is organised by Great Dunmow Round Table, a charity made up of men aged 18 - 45 who voluntarily hold fundraising events for local charities, causes, and individuals who need a helping hand. Over the past 10 years, the charity has raised over £250,000 for the local community through events such as fireworks night, Santa’s sleigh and concert nights.

Due to the sheer popularity of this event, extra measures are being made to facilitate the 20,000 plus people who are expected to attend this year. This will include three giant screens, a larger film crew, more entertainment, and more exhilarating and challenging obstacles.
